SWECO wins new major contract from Swedish Road Administration

September 4, 2006 | Press release

Road E18 between Hjulsta and Kista in Stockholm will be upgraded to highway standard. Together with Carl Bro, SWECO VBB has been commissioned to plan the Rinkeby-Kista section in a contract worth nearly EUR 4.3 million.

The assignment includes preparation of building, tendering, work and contract documents.

”We are very pleased to be taking part in yet another large and prestigious infrastructure project in Stockholm, where our expertise can contribute to a better traffic situation,” says Mats Påhlsson, Managing Director of SWECO VBB.

The E18’s upgrade to highway standard on the Hjulsta-Kista section will increase traffic capacity and reduce the accident rate. A separation of through traffic and local traffic is being carried out along the entire section, and will require widening of the roadway with additional lanes.

The assignment covers a range of different areas such as road and traffic planning and road design, as well as structural, geotechnical, soil and environmental engineering.

Work will begin in September 2006 and is expected to continue until August 2008. The assignment will be carried out in collaboration with Carl Bro and will also involve several other SWECO companies, including SWECO VIAK, SWECO Theorells and SWECO FFNS.

SWECO VBB currently has extensive assignments in several of the major infrastructure projects currently underway in Stockholm, such as Norra Länken, Citybanan, Norrortsleden and the congestion tax trials.
