SWECO wins contract from Svenska Kraftnät

June 13, 2006 | Press release

SWECO has been selected by Svenska Kraftnät, the Swedish transmission system operator, to prepare a feasibility study for the Sydlänken power transmission project.

The Sydlänken transmission line runs between Hallsberg in Närke and Hörby in Skåne, a distance of 400 km. SWECO’s task is to compare two different alternatives – a traditional technical solution consisting of a 400 kV overhead alternating current line, and another based on an underground direct current line. The assignment also includes studies on possible transmission line alignments as well as environmental and permitting issues.

Work will begin immediately and the feasibility study will be circulated to the affected authorities for comment during the autumn of 2006. The contract is worth over EUR 162,500 and will be carried out in collaboration between SWECO Energuide, SWECO VIAK and SWECO Position.

The objective behind Sydlänken is to achieve a more secure and efficient power supply by eliminating the bottleneck that exists in the national grid between northern and southern Sweden.
