Sweco to improve safety at the Ringhals nuclear power plant

October 23, 2012 | Press release

Sweco has been awarded a major contract to modernise the electric power systems at the Ringhals nuclear power plant. The assignment is part of an effort to continuously improve safety in the facility. The contract is valued at over EUR 10.6 million.

“In view of the rigorous safety requirements for nuclear power plants today, it is a great honour to be entrusted with total responsibility for modernising the electric power systems at Ringhals,” says Erik Severin, President of Sweco Energuide.

The project will entail comprehensive upgrading of the internal electric power systems in Ringhals reactor 1. Work will be carried out as a collaborative effort between Sweco and Ringhals in which Sweco has been assigned total responsibility for engineering design, testing and implementation of the new systems. Sweco will contribute wide-ranging technical expertise and in addition to electric power consultants, will also provide ventilation and calculation experts.

“This is a long-term initiative and will create a good platform for us to recruit new employees. We expect to have over 20 employees working on the project over the next few years,” says Erik Severin.

The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2016.
