Sweco chosen as GIT partner for Posten

January 26, 2009 | Press release

Posten, the Swedish Postal Service, is investing ambitiously to develop ways of using geographical information in its operations and has chosen Sweco as its partner in this effort, awarding Sweco a contract worth nearly EUR 710,000.

In the future postal operations will be increasingly supported by an advanced geographic IT environment that is used in everything from marketing and production to delivery and follow-up.

“We need a strong partner, and Sweco has shown a genuine interest in building up Posten’s knowledge and use of geographic IT,” according to Posten’s project manager Lennart Widelund.

“Many organisations are discovering that it is possible to both improve their performance and realize significant financial gains by structuring and visualising information with the help of geographic IT. In many cases, the use of GIT can also create major environmental benefits,” says Eva Nygren, President of Sweco Sweden

Sweco’s tasks will be to develop, implement, manage, maintain and support Posten’s GIT environment. Sweco’s geographic IT operations have grown dramatically in recent years, above all through a number of new and large-scale contracts for the energy, forestry industry and the public sectors.

GIT functions currently used by Posten include systems/applications for route planning, visualisation of customer and market analyses, map presentations on the website posten.se and post code assignment.
