Sweco acquires Metro Arkitekter

March 6, 2014 | Press release

Sweco is strengthening its position within architecture with the acquisition of Metro Arkitekter, with 30 employees and offices in Malmö and Gothenburg. Following the acquisition Sweco’s architect operations will have 650 employees at 25 offices in the Nordic region.

– With the acquisition of Metro Arkitekter, Sweco is strengthening its position in western and southern Sweden. Above all, we will become even stronger within architecture in the infrastructure segment. The merger is fully in line with Sweco’s focus on offering start-to-finish solutions for sustainable cities and societies, says Jan Mattsson, President of Sweco Architects.

Metro Arkitekter was founded in 1999 and has a broad architecture offering. The company’s achievements have been acknowledged with several significant projects, including Station Hyllie, Malmö’s Central Station and the Magasinet office building in Malmö. Major on-going projects include Gothenburg’s Central Station and the Olskroken bridges, part of the Western Link railway project in Gothenburg.

– We see major opportunities to continue to develop within Sweco. Our employees and clients alike will have access to Sweco’s collective expertise and a larger geographic presence, particularly internationally, says Claes R Janson, CEO of Metro Arkitekter.

Sweco’s architect operations have performed strongly in recent years and have grown organically and through acquisitions in both Sweden and Finland.
