Sweco wins major consulting contract for development of Skeppsbron in Gothenburg
Södra Älvstranden is one of the largest urban development projects currently underway in Sweden’s second largest city Gothenburg. Sweco has been awarded a contract worth approximately EUR 3.2 million to study and plan new infrastructure for the Skeppsbron area.
Sweco has been commissioned by the Gothenburg Traffic and Public Transport Authority to study and plan public spaces and light rail lines. The assignment also includes study and design of water and sewerage systems and new quays.
“The task at Skeppsbron is to create a built environment that is closely integrated with the waterfront. The design, function and character of the public spaces is naturally also important in a project of such significance for the city,” says Lars Almqvist, Regional Manager at Sweco Gothenburg.
Södra Älvstranden is an area that became available for development when innercity traffic was rerouted through the Göta Tunnel.
“The assignment is being carried out in close collaboration with the City Planning Office and Älvstranden Utveckling AB,” says Klas Thorén at the Traffic and Public Transport Authority.
