SWECO wins hydropower contract in Romania

November 8, 2005 | Press release

SWECO Energuide has been chosen to modernise one of Romania’s most important hydropower plants. The contract is worth around EUR 800,000.

The plant, Stejaru-Bicaz, is located in the northeastern part of the country. SWECO Energuide will carry out a technical and financial study and prepare tender documents for upgrading of the plant, which was built in the 1960s.

”We are currently working on a number of similar consulting assignments in Sweden and are involved in the modernisation of the High Dam hydropower plant in Egypt. We are also witnessing an increasing interest on the international market in our services in the field of hydro power rehabilitation” says Anders Ståhl, Overseas Manager at SWECO Energuide.

Stejaru-Bicaz contains six units with an installed capacity of 200 MW. The plant is situated on the upper Bistrita River in northeastern Romania. In total, there are some 20 power stations along the river with a total output of around 600 MW.

The client is Romania’s state-owned hydropower company Hidroelectrica S.A. The project is scheduled for completion in January 2007.
