Sweco has been contracted for yet another energy assignment in Africa. This time, the goal is to improve access to electricity in parts of central and northern Zambia. The contract is worth around EUR 1.3 million.

There is still a widespread lack of electricity in several countries in the central and southern areas of Africa, a problem that is creating obstacles for social progress and commercial development.

“In recent years Sweco has been hired for a number of similar assignments in countries like Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Tanzania. The assignments are aimed at providing both the urban and rural population with functioning systems for electricity,” says Eva Nygren, President of Sweco Sweden.

Sweco’s services in Zambia include supervision and control of an initiative to both expand and reinforce the existing power distribution network. In total, it will affect a population of 260,000 people spread across ten areas in the central and northern regions of Zambia. The assignment is being carried out on behalf of Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (ZESCO) with financing from the World Bank.
