Sweco to sponsor yacht race for the environment
This weekend marks the start of the Gotland Runt Baltic Yacht Race. One special entrant is the racing yacht 4Oceans, which combines sailing with a mission to spread knowledge about climate and environmental issues around the Baltic Sea. Sweco is participating as a sponsor of the project.
“As one of Europe’s leading providers of consulting services for water and the environment, it is only natural for Sweco to support a project so clearly committed to influencing the Baltic Sea environment in the right direction,” says Mats Wäppling, Managing Director and CEO of Sweco.
4Oceans will take part in a number of yacht races this summer. In addition to competing, the crew will spread knowledge about different ways to improve the Baltic Sea environment. The message will be actively communicated through visits to boat clubs, guest harbours and associations. Among other things, 4Oceans has drawn up recommendations and information about how boat owners can make a positive difference.
“We have chosen to focus on introducing a new class of boat, Class 40, in Sweden while at the same time promoting an interest in discussion of environmental issues,” says Anders Westin, Marketing Director for 4Oceans.
4Oceans is one of the world’s fastest monohull yachts, boasting a top speed of 33 knots. It is the first Class 40 boat in Sweden and is specially designed for speed and extreme sailing.
The boat’s skipper is experienced sailor Christopher “Bamse” Ringhagen. The team will also include marine meteorologist Madeleine Westin.
