Sweco to provide engineering services for the Royal Swedish Opera
Sweco is commissioned by The National Property Board Sweden to provide structural engineering services during the modernisation of the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. The building has a high cultural-historic value and the assignment includes renovation and design of new facilities.
The Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm is the national stage in Sweden for opera, ballet, and modern dance. The Swedish Government decided in December 2016 to let The National Property Board Sweden modernise the building, which origin dates to 1773. The project includes a full renovation and reconstruction to better support the opera’s needs.
“In the tender, Sweco presented an organisation with good references to projects that are similar in scale and complexity. We look forward to get started,” says Ulrika Berglund, Project Director at The National Property Board Sweden.
”The Royal Swedish Opera is a landmark in Stockholm with a high cultural-historic value. We are glad to be able to contribute with our engagement and expertise to modernise and prepare the building for the future,” says Åsa Bergman, president Sweco Sweden.
Sweco’s services include structural engineering, geotechnology and building engineering physics. The reconstruction is going to be significant and new facilities will be created by demolition and redeployment. Changes will also be made in current facilities, many with a high cultural-historic value. The project will be carried out in close cooperation with the Royal Swedish Opera.
Work on the project will begin immediately and continues to 2025.
