Sweco to improve energy efficiency in churches for Diocese of Linköping

February 2, 2012 | Press release

The Diocese of Linköping has launched a project to reduce energy usage in its church facilities, consisting of a total of around 700 buildings. Sweco is one of three consultants that have been commissioned to perform inspections and propose possible improvements.

The aim of the project is to offer the diocese’s parishes help in improving the energy efficiency of heated buildings in the Diocese of Linköping’s properties. Of the estimated 700 buildings, around 280 are churches and chapels.

“The project has to be carried out with consideration to the environment, finances and the historical value of the buildings, as well as the staff and visitors,” says Annika Deltin, Acting Project Manager at the Diocese of Linköping.

Sweco has previous experience of working with energy efficiency measures in churches, including energy inventories and planning for some 30 churches and congregation halls on northern Öland. Sweco’s part of the contract is estimated at nearly EUR 100,000.

More facts

The project is called “Energy efficiency and increased cooperation in energy and property issues at the diocese and contract level in the Diocese of Linköping” and was started in the spring of 2011 by the Diocese of Linköping in collaboration with Etik & Energi (Ethics & Energy), a Swedish interfaith non-profit association. The actual inspection of the buildings will begin in February 2012. Sweco has signed a contract with Etik & Energi, which aside from Sweco has also commissioned Bengt Dahlgren and KanEnergi.
