SWECO to develop international guidelines for a better environment

September 19, 2005 | Press release

SWECO VIAK has been awarded a contract to develop environment, health and safety guidelines for industrial and infrastructure projects financed by the World Bank.

”The guidelines we prepare will be widely distributed throughout much of the world. Above all, they will be applied in developing countries which lack laws and guidelines in these areas,” says Per Johansson, Managing Director of SWECO VIAK.

The guidelines will be used by companies and organisations responsible for projects financed by the World Bank’s private sector investment division International Finance Corporation, IFC. Environmental, health and safety aspects must be taken into account when undertaking large-scale projects such as roads, railways, harbours, airports, water/wastewater systems, waste treatment facilities, industrial areas, telecommunications installations, paper manufacturing and sawmills.

SWECO’s contract is worth over EUR 320,000 and will be financed by the World Bank’s Swedish consultancy fund. The assignment is scheduled for the summer of 2006.
