Sweco to coordinate the planning and approval process of the new DC connection A-Nord power line in Germany
Sweco has been commissioned by Amprion GmbH to advice in the planning of the new DC connection A-Nord power cable that will transfer renewable energy from the North of Lower Saxony to North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. Sweco will support the approval and planning processes as main coordinator.
“The new power cable will support Germany in its shift to renewable energy as it will transfer wind power to North Rhine-Westphalia. We are looking forward to working together with Amprion GmbH on this important large-scale project”, says Ina Brandes, President of Sweco Central Europe.
DC Connection A-Nord is primarily planned as an underground cable. It will be about 300 kilometers long with a transmission capacity of 2 GW, equaling the average energy consumption of two million people. Sweco will support with overall coordination and preparation of documentation.
Sweco has previous experience from similar grid extension projects such as the high voltage line Gütersloh-Lüstringen, where our experts were responsible for the preparation of documentation for the approval process.
The project has been commissioned by Amprion GmbH, a transmission system operator active in Germany and other parts of Europe. Amprion operates the largest extra-high voltage transmission system in Germany. The project is expected to be finished by the end of 2025.
