December 1, 2010 | Press release

Sweco has been awarded a major healthcare contract in collaboration with L.E.B Consult. Building service systems consultants from the two companies will be responsible for planning HVAC and plumbing systems in the new annex to be built at University Hospital in Linköping.

“Sweco has successfully conducted healthcare assignments throughout Sweden for many years, Our wide-ranging expertise in everything from building service systems and architecture to structural engineering and project management is highly sought after in the healthcare sector, where there are many rebuilding and new construction projects underway at the moment,” says Eva Nygren, President of Sweco Sweden.

The new annex will house facilities such as patient wards, emergency care units and clinics for specialist care. The contract covers an area of approximately 53,000 square metres of new construction, all of which is subject to stringent energy targets.

“The goal is for energy consumption in the hospital facilities to amount to less than half of the applicable requirements according to the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s regulations. We are therefore studying solutions for both solar heating and free cooling,” says Björn Kleist, Team Leader at Sweco in Linköping.

Parallel to the new assignment, Sweco is currently working on the New Karolinska Hospital and Angered’s new local hospital. Sweco is also participating in a competition for one of Denmark’s largest construction projects, the new University Hospital in Odense.

Sweco will collaborate with L.E.B Consult in planning of the University Hospital in Linköping. Ten HVAC and plumbing consultants from Sweco and L.E.B will work on the project full-time for a period of two years.
