SWECO designs streets and parks in a new residential area

March 20, 2007 | Press release

In a new commission for the City of Stockholm SWECO is to develop program documents for streets and parkland in the Årsta area.

A large section of Årsta will soon be ready for residential re-development. New land is being freed up partly as a result of a reduced traffic volume within the area, and partly in the light of the proposed removal of a power line into a rock tunnel.

– This project is ideally suited to us, as we at SWECO have an established record of collaboration between different technical areas, explains Project Manager Jarl Ericzén at SWECO VBB TrafikDesign, who draws a comparison with earlier, similar projects in urban areas such as Hammarby Sjöstad and Liljeholmen-Årstadal.

SWECO will be responsible for the creation of landscape, parks and streets with the aid of levelling, traffic studies and geotechnics. The project also includes management co-ordination within the area.

– The new development, with around 2000 residential units, will link up with existing housing developments in Årsta. It is an exciting challenge for us to create streets and parkland in this new area of town, says Jarl Ericzén.

The work is being carried out at the request of the Stockholm City Development Office. The program documents are to be used as a basis for detailed plans and working documents for public land. The project is worth around 3.5 million SEK and will be ongoing until December 2008.
