Sweco contracted to create a more secure power supply in the Stockholm region

October 15, 2012 | Press release

Sweco has been awarded a major design contract in connection with the construction of a new transformer station in Danderyd outside Stockholm. The assignment is part of an initiative by Svenska Kraftnät (the Swedish national grid operator) to ensure a more secure supply of power in the Stockholm region.

”It is satisfying to know that our work will contribute to both better living environments and more secure access to electricity for the entire Stockholm region,” says Erik Severin, President of Sweco Energuide.

In the assignment Sweco will have overall functional responsibility for control and monitoring of the new facility. This responsibility will also include engineering design and commissioning. Sweco’s services are an important piece of the puzzle in efforts to link together the power grid between northern and southern Stockholm. When the new structure is completed it will be possible to demolish around 150 km of overhead lines, creating room for recreational areas and new housing, among other things.

Since the transformer station is being placed near a future residential area, there has been a strong focus on the architecture of the facility, which has been designed to fit into its surroundings. The assignment is being carried out with Alstom Grid as the main contractor.

The new facility will go into operation during 2014. The contract is valued at close to EUR 700,000.
