Mats Wäppling new CEO of SWECO

October 24, 2006 | Press release

Mats Wäppling, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NCC AB and President of NCC Property Development, has been named the new Managing Director and CEO of SWECO AB. He will take up duties on 1 January 2007 and will succeed Wigon Thuresson, who is leaving the CEO post after seven successful years.

”It is very promising for SWECO that Mats Wäppling has been chosen to succeed Wigon Thuresson. In view of Mats’ excellent leadership skills and several years of experience on the Board of SWECO, I am confident that SWECO will continue to be a robust, profitable and leading player in the industry,” says Olle Nordström, Chairman of SWECO AB.

”It will be enormously exciting to continue advancing SWECO as one of the leading players in the consulting engineering industry. SWECO has both the organisation and financial muscle needed to secure a top position,” according to Mats Wäppling.

Mats Wäppling is 50 years old and has a M.Sc. in civil engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology. Since 2003 he has been Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NCC AB and President of NCC Property Development. Prior to this, he held various positions at Skanska between 1979 and 2002, including Vice President and Business Area Manager.

Under Wigon Thuresson’s leadership, SWECO has evolved from a primarily domestic provider of consulting engineering services in Sweden with annual sales of SEK 1.6 billion and 2,200 employees into an international consulting engineering group with annual sales of SEK 3.7 billion and more than 4,000 employees.

”It is convenient for everyone involved that I pass the baton at year-end. Mats has the right background and expertise to guide SWECO’s ongoing development in the best possible way. I will also be leaving the Board in connection with the 2007 Annual General Meeting and look forward to playing a freer role in the business sector,” says Wigon Thuresson.
