SWECO wins major marine contract in Finland
SWECO PIC’s Marine Technology division has been selected by Aker Yards to provide extensive consulting engineering services for the construction of a new passenger ferry to be delivered to Brittany Ferries of France. The contract is valued at EUR 1.5 million.
The assignment includes engineering of the hull, machinery and electrical systems. The vessel will be built at the Aker Yards shipyards in Finland and is scheduled for delivery in autumn 2008. At its peak, around 40 engineers will be involved in the project.
SWECO PIC’s Marine Technology division was recently awarded similar assignments for three other passenger ferries that will also be built at the Aker Yards shipyards in Finland.
SWECO PIC’s Marine Technology operations were previously conducted in the company PI-Rauma Oy, which was jointly owned with Technip of France. At the end of the first quarter, these operations were focused and divided into two separate units based on the core businesses of its two owners. The new contract is the first to be signed after the restructuring.
SWECO PIC’s Marine Technology division has solid expertise and longstanding experience of technical solutions for car-passenger ferries, cruise ships, and oil platforms.
