Sweco to strengthen electric power supply in Central Sweden

March 8, 2013 | Press release

Sweco has been appointed by Svenska Kraftnät (the Swedish national grid operator) to design three new power lines which will strengthen the transfer of electricity from the Forsmark nuclear power plant. The contract is valued at SEK 47 million.

“This is an investment with significance for the whole society. A well-developed power grid is crucial so that the electricity produced can be transferred in a reliable and effective manner. The assignment is a confirmation of Sweco’s comprehensive expertise in energy supply,” says Erik Severin, President for Sweco’s energy consultants.

Sweco’s assignment involves detailed planning, soil surveys, steel and concrete construction as well as visualisation. The end result of the project will be three 400 kV overhead lines of a total of 190 km. The power lines enable Forsmark’s increased power output and connects to the grid at different places in Central Sweden. The design work will begin immediately and continues until the end of 2015. Sweco will also provide project support until the power lines are completed in 2018-2019.
