Sweco to reinforce power supply in Småland

May 16, 2013 | Press release

Sweco has been chosen by Svenska Kraftnät (the Swedish national grid operator) to plan a new power line that will reinforce transmission of electricity from the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant. The contract is worth over EUR 1.6 million.

“This reinforcement of the national grid is important in ensuring the operating reliability of the Swedish power transmission system, but is also a vital enabler for the existing plans to build a new electricity interconnection to the island of Gotland. We are proud that Svenska Kraftnät has chosen Sweco to provide comprehensive expertise in the energy supply area,” says Erik Severin, President of Sweco Energuide.

Sweco’s assignment includes detail planning, site surveys, steel and concrete structures and visualisation. The end result of the project will be a 150 km long overhead line with a voltage of 400 kV. The line will be connected to the national grid and will create the conditions for a capacity increase at the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant. The planning and design process will continue until the spring of 2016. Sweco will also provide support in the project until the finished lines are completed at the end of 2018.
