SWECO to plan new urban district in Russia

July 27, 2005 | Press release

SWECO FFNS Arkitekter has been chosen to present a design proposal for the large-scale Baltic Pearl development project containing residential, retail and public facilities. This new district with housing for around 35,000 will be a modern addition to St. Petersburg.

”In the past few years we have planned several similar projects in both China and Russia. Now we have received further proof that our expertise is highly sought after in the international market,” says Eva Nygren, Managing Director of SWECO FFNS.

The project will be carried out as a parallel assignment in which five international architectural firms have been chosen to submit design proposals for the district. SWECO FFNS is the only Nordic architectural invited to participate.

“We are proud to belong to the group of world-leading architects who have been entrusted with this task,” says Eva Nygren.

The project is being carried out by Chinese investors and is expected to run for the next eight years. The total cost of the Baltic Pearl project is estimated at USD 1.3 billion. In the first stage, the contract is worth 120 000 USD for SWECO FFNS.

Baltic Peal will be a modern complement to St. Petersburg. The assignment is to create a whole new district characterised by innovative design, modern housing and sustainable urban development. An area of two square kilometres will be developed, among other things with 11,500 residential units.
