Sweco to modernise Gävle Hospital
Sweco has been commissioned for an extensive project by Region Gävleborg, to prepare documentation for the preliminary and design phases of the renovation of Gävle Hospital in Sweden. The overall result will be a hospital that meets today’s high standards for pleasant environments, modern technology and patient security.
“We will create the best possible conditions here for healthcare of the future. Sweco will play a major role in the transformation of the hospital. Sweco’s knowledge bank and extensive experience in designing modern hospitals will be highly significant,” says Helena Ribacke, Director of Property Development at Region Gävleborg.
Sweco experts in areas ranging from architecture to construction and building services engineering will participate in the wide-ranging project. Five floors will be added to one building to make room for reception areas. Another building will be renovated to create nursing wards with high quality single rooms. A key element of the project is ensuring the least possible disturbance to the day-to-day provision of care.
”We combine technical expertise with deep knowledge of a hospital’s complex business operations. Everything from reception rooms to pneumatic tubes are designed to put the patient first. With flexible facilities and good flows we create the best conditions for high quality care,” says Åsa Bergman, President of Sweco Sweden.
Sweco has extensive experience in healthcare projects throughout Europe, with previous projects including New Karolinska Hospital and Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Sweden, Kajana Central Hospital in Finland and the Charité University Hospital in Germany.
Sweco’s work on the project will begin immediately. The renovated hospital is scheduled to begin operations in 2021.
