SWECO to alleviate pollution in St. Petersburg

SWECO VIAK will contribute to environmental improvements in St. Petersburg, Russia, through a large-scale study to identify the sources of pollution and means for reducing them. The contract is worth 383,000 euro.

”At the moment we are active in a number of similar assignments throughout Central and Eastern Europe, where the various countries are taking measures to improve their environmental performance”, says Per Johansson Managing Director of SWECO VIAK.

SWECO VIAK will investigate which emissions are produced by the city’s existing treatment plants and industries. The municipal sewage network will also be studied and a programme of remedial measures formulated.

The assignment is being carried out on behalf of the water utility Vodokanal in St. Petersburg with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
