December 9, 2015 | Press release

Sweco will be responsible for land use and construction planning, and parts of the process piping plan, for SCA’s expansion of Östrand’s pulp mill in Timrå. This investment in Östrand will double production of bleached needle-sulphate pulp and create Sweden’s largest pulp mill.

”This is one of the largest industrial investments ever made in Sweden. The assignment confirms our position as the leading expert in paper and pulp planning,” said Åsa Bergman, CEO of Sweco Sweden.

Under the assignment, Sweco’s industry specialists and structural engineers will be responsible for land use and construction planning and for parts of the process piping plan. Sweco has been carrying out assignments at Östrand since the 1920s. Sweco’s experts in areas ranging from land use and geotechnics to fire and water and sewer systems conducted project feasibility studies during the past year.

Sweco’s work on the project will begin immediately and continue through 2018, when the new mill is scheduled to begin operation.

Sweco is currently involved in several major paper and pulp projects throughout the Nordic region, including at Äänekoski in Finland and Värö in Sweden.
