New assignment in Romania for SWECO’s environmental consultants

April 7, 2005 | Press release

SWECO VIAK has been teamed with the UK-based consulting company Halcrow to provide technical expertise for upgrading and renovation of water and wastewater systems in northwestern Romania.

”The countries in Central and Eastern Europe have an urgent need to adopt EU environmental regulations and standards. We are working on several similar assignments in the Baltic countries, Russia, Bulgaria and Hungary,” says Per Johansson, Managing Director of SWECO VIAK.

SWECO VIAK and Halcrow will assist the local water authorities in the city of Satu Mare in a large-scale project to modernise the city’s water and wastewater systems.

The project is part of an EU initiative in which the countries in Central and Eastern Europe are being provided with investment support for adaptation to EU norms in the environmental and other areas.

Satu Mare has a population of around 120,000. The contract signed by SWECO and Halcrow runs for four years and is worth a total of nearly 2.2 million euros.
