Sweco has been awarded an extensive assignment as part of pulp and paper producer Metsä Group’s major investment in Äänekoski, Finland. The end result will be the most efficient and modern bioproduct mill in the world. The value of the assignment corresponds to one year’s work for approximately 200 people.   

”This bioproduct mill is the largest ever investment in the forest industry in Finland. As Sweco has met our high standards for energy and environmental efficiency and technical quality in the preplanning of the mill, we decided to continue our collaboration with Sweco,” says Ilkka Hämälä, CEO, Metsä Fibre Oy.

Under the assignment, Sweco’s industry specialists and structural engineers will design and plan a new production plant for bioproducts and bioenergy. The key role played by Sweco to date includes calculating the cost and assessing the environmental impact of the project.

Sweco’s work on the assignment will begin immediately and continue through late 2017. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in autumn 2017.
