Thoughtful urban planning
The new city district draws inspiration from the area’s rich history, embracing a strong resilient and independent character. Distinctive buildings along the canal and unique meeting places will be harmoniously integrated in this thoughtful urban planning and architecture.
The urban plan prioritises pedestrians and cyclists, fostering a safe, accessible and enjoyable environment. Emphasis is placed on walking, social interaction and community gatherings. Cars will have a secondary role and motorists will be regarded as guests in the new city district.
Architecture for a pleasant living environment
Sweco’s architects are responsible for parts of the urban design including the social program, some of the residential buildings and the total development on the Ringbaan side. The Smarius Tower will be an impressive landmark at the entrance to the area.
The design for Smariuskade has been carefully crafted with a focus on creating a dynamic and lively environment that respects historical value and introduces a pleasant living environment.
In collaboration with CB5 and QMVH architecture.
