Sweco wins prestigious contract for Nobel Center

Sweco wins the assignment to assist the international architectural firm David Chipperfield Architects in Berlin, in the development of the new Nobel Center in Stockholm, Sweden.
The new Nobel Center, which will be located at Slussen in Stockholm, will be the place to visit for science, culture, and dialogue. It will host a wide range of public activities, including exhibitions, school programmes, lectures, and discussions on the major issues of the future. The ambition is that the construction process and the building’s entire lifespan will be as sustainable as possible.
To be entrusted to work on this high-profile project together with David Chipperfield Architects is a great honor. We will assist the Nobel Foundation in developing the new Nobel Center into a sustainable, interactive, international meeting place, says Ulla Bergström, Division Manager of Sweco Architects in Sweden.
Sweco’s assignment includes process management to define the Nobel Center’s sustainability targets, such as;
- Energy consumption
- Carbon emissions
- Social sustainability
- Material selection
The assignment also includes process management of the development of the Nobel Center’s operational program, including identifying which activities the building will contain and how they will interact with each other.

The assignment runs until June 2023, with a possible extension to 2029. Construction of the new Nobel Center is scheduled to start in 2026 and with inauguration in 2029.
