Expansion of the university
When the hospital decided to concentrate its biomedical facilities at the Venusberg Campus, known for its teaching and medical care as well as top level research, Sweco’s architects were commissioned to plan and design the new the facility.
The design required something that fitted in with both the existing hospital buildings and the rest of the cityscape, and space was limited. The solution was a striking three-storey building that also serves as an entrance for the university campus.
A welcoming entrance
At the entrance area, the facade has been moved in slightly to give a welcoming impression and at the same time create a roof over the main entrance. The floors have a protruding edge in the reinforced concrete facade and the combination of coloured glass pilasters, window elements and the vertical metal panels in the facade give the building a dynamic visual expression.
