Built with respect for nature and biodiversity

The two lake baths have been developed by Sweco’s architects in close collaboration with the Danish Nature Agency and the permits for the project were granted on the basis of that a thorough environmental impact assessment was conducted, ensuring that new construction could be completed without negative consequences for the area’s animals, flora and fauna and water environment. The nature around Almind Lake contains a high level of biodiversity with for example, 20 species of underwater plants, including several rare ones.

Inspiration from the organic patterns found in nature

With inspiration from nature, the circle is the basic idea behind the design – at Eastern Bathing Resort the round bathing bridges are situated next to each other, while at Westerns Bathing Resort they extend one after the other out into the water. By designing the lake baths in a round shape, the architecture will entice the visitors to use the connected bridges as they move around, which will be less taxing on the surrounding nature. The baths are built using locally produced wood.

International nature protection area

Almind Lake is part of an international nature protection area, which mandates the preservation of good water quality. Therefore, the behaviour of visitors must be considered, so that any impact on nature is kept to the minimum. The vision with the new lake baths is to improve the level of the facilities for bathers at Almindsø, while creating modern facilities that protect the biodiversity in the lake and its surroundings.

Eastern and Western Bathing Resorts was the recipient of Silkeborg Municipality’s Architecture Award 2021.
