Thoughtful solutions for a new hospital

The aim has been to provide conditions for the greatest possible patient involvement and to create a smart and efficient local hospital offering specialist care. Digitalisation and technical innovations have helped to create an efficient building.

The design is welcoming and gives a sense of easy accessibility. Patients check  themselves in upon arrival and make their way  to the correct room, placing high demands on the layout of the premises. Patients, staff, and materials travel in separate flows that converge at nodes.

Design that fosters recovery

Högsbo local hospital offers bright, airy environments and generous public areas with plenty of views, primarily in the form of the welcoming entrance hall with a cafe and access to a sunny terrace in a park-like setting. Patient areas are designed with care to foster good recovery through abundant daylight, privacy, and rooftop terraces.

The consistent colour concept unifies the building  and ties it to the local area. The brick facades connect to other buildings in the hospital area, which have a consistent red brick architecture from different eras. Inside, blue and green tones with a touch of black,  reference the surrounding district’s many buildings from the 1950s. Light ash and white are combined with dark grey to create thoughtful visual contrast and orientability.

Built for future changes

Högsbo local hospital is built for the future, with the idea being that the premises should be able to change and adapt as needed. To facilitate these adjustments, all care rooms and operating theatres are standardised and not tailored to any specific type of procedure. This makes it easier to adapt the premises to future technologies.
