Community-focused design of sport facilities

The focus is on community, encompassing everyone from elite footballers of the Danish Superliga team to regular members of the public. This is reflected in the design and layout of the facilities, with emphasis on transparency across areas and floors, as well as good visibility and connection with the surrounding training areas.

Public training area at Ikast Complete

Ikast Complete is a public facility and training area that caters to citizens looking to challenge themselves in terms of fitness and strength. It is an extension of Guldminen, which is the learning facility for students, as well as FC Midtjylland’s Superliga and academy players.

Red running track leads the way to training facilities

Upon arrival at the site, visitors are greeted by a running track in red asphalt, which guides them to Guldminen and further around the 300 metre-long running track with four lanes. An iconic 9-metre-high ‘mountain’ rises from the running track and offers different tracks with movement and challenges built into the terrain. It offers a 360-degree view of Ikast Complete. The tower also serves as a landmark for the area.

Versatile training facility architecture offers various activities

The training facility, also called the ‘mountain’, offers a whole range of options: football tennis, running tracks, chill-out zones for stretching and relaxation, suspended ropes, an activity course with trampolines at different levels, a balance zone, and a boulder wall/climbing grips. In the adjacent areas outside of the running track, paved areas have been established for activities such as parkour, beach volleyball and beach handball, trampolining, and there are also various types of cages for ball games.

Project proposal approved by FC Midtjylland representatives

The building is located in Sportscampus Ikast-Brande between the players’ training fields and the training facility Ikast Complete. Guldminen is spread over four floors and is integrated into the surroundings with slopes that transport the green turf right up to the first-floor level, large stairs and grandstands that function both for training and as spectator stands, as well as roof terraces all the way around to create a smooth transition between the building’s spaces and the training facility. In the design process, a working group consisting of representatives from the football club and Guldminen approved the development of the project proposal and developed the building’s spatial program.
