A first-class workplace

Building 3 will house approximately 2,400 R&D employees and one of the biggest architectural challenges was to fit the required 28,500 m² into a tight space while maintaining high quality. Our architects designed a compact yet spacious sturdy building with deep floors in which open workplaces can be created for large project teams, aligned with the ASML philosophy that every employee deserves a first-class workplace.

BREEM Excellent

Focus was placed on finding sustainable solutions, which is reflected in the building being awarded a BREEAM Excellent label and the WELL Platinum certificate. The BREEAM Excellent score is achieved through a combination of energy demand reduction measures and the sustainable generation of the remaining energy needs. For example, the building is equipped with 828 solar panels, most of which are located on the roof of the building.

Parametric design to minimize sunlight

Parametric design to minimize sunlight
The innovative designed facade is a result of cooperation with an agency specialising in parametric design. Calculations regarding the incidence of the sun, depth and height resulted in facade elements with fins that vary in depth. This parametrically designed facade is an innovative design methodology that minimises the entry of sunlight while at the same time allowing daylight to penetrate deep into the space. Apart from creating a dynamic appearance, the eye-catching design contributes to significant energy savings in lighting and cooling. It also gives the building a different look, depending on season and time of day.

Flexible working concept

The nine-storey building consists largely of a working environment that is designed according to the “SAFe” principle (the flexible ASML working concept). In addition to workplaces, there are many informal meeting places, collaborative workspaces and meeting rooms in the building. There are also activity and focus rooms. The lower three floors are oriented towards the atrium, where there is a plaza, with a kitchen, that all ASML employees can use to have lunch, collaborate or just socialise.
