Sweco to design new hospital in Finland

Sweco has been commissioned for a new central hospital project in Hämeenlinna.

“Sweco has extensive expertise in designing new hospitals. Our technical expertise, structural design and building services combined with logistics design and user participation are at the core of this central hospital project in Hämeenlinna,” advises Markku Varis, President of Sweco Finland.

Sweco participates in a consortium formed together with Skanska. Together the companies have previously also cooperated in the construction of the central hospital of Kainuu.

“We are pleased to have an alliance partner, with whom we can achieve better functionality, productivity and cost efficiency for the new hospital,” advises Hannu Juvonen, CEO of Kanta-Häme Hospital District.

The development stage of the new central hospital is estimated to be completed by the end of 2019. The execution phase will be defined during the development stage. Construction is estimated to commence in 2020. The total gross area of the hospital premises will be 87,000 square meters.

Sweco has extensive experience of healthcare projects throughout Europe, with previous project commissions including Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Sweden, the Complexe Hospitalier Régional Sud in Belgium, a new regional hospital in Gaustad, Norway and the Charité University Hospital in Germany.
