Feasibility Study HVDC - Lithuania - Sweden

The feasibility study of interconnection between Lithuanian and Swedish power systems evaluates the possibility of interconnecting power grids of both countries by a 350 km, 700-1000 MW submarine cable across the Baltic Sea. The power link is important for increasing security and reliability of energy supply in the entire Baltic Region as well as the integration of the Baltic States into the electricity market of the European Union.

During the first stage an initial Feasibility assessment and focused upon market analysis, financial and economical modelling and related issues. The technical input from the Pre-Feasibility Study will be the base for the modelling work; however the input needs to be updated into real prices and necessary scope. Sweco will, in close cooperation with the Contracting Entities, be responsible for evaluating the need for investments in order to reinforce the existing grids. The second stage of the study includes an additional evaluation of connection of wind farms to Lithuanian-Swedish link and financing options of the project.
