Wastewater treatment plants in Eastern Europe

Sweco has been awarded a contract to supervise the construction phase of three new wastewater treatment plants in Russia, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

The water authorities in the cities of Sestoresk, Russia, Jihlava, Czech Republic, and Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, have selected Sweco for construction management of the three wastewater treatment plants.

The plants were in urgent need of renovation, reconstruction and upgrading. The piping systems and pumping stations have been replaced and wastewater treatment process improved. Sweco’s task has been to ensure that the contractors stay on budget and schedule and that the desired technical quality is maintained.

The Sestoresk plant has required a total rebuild due to severe wear on the technical and mechanical equipment. The plants in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria decided to modernise their water and wastewater treatment systems as a step in meeting the requirements for EU membership.
