Passive building in Bromsten

Enriching project #24 651 of 31 000. The architects and engineers at Sweco are working together to develop so-called low-energy houses and passive houses. One such example is the passive building that Sweco is planning and designing on behalf of Svenska Bostäder in Bromsten, outside Stockholm.

The building contains 36 apartments that are adapted to create the best possible conditions for energy-optimisation, among other things through solar shading, maximum use of natural daylight, mechanical fresh and exhaust air with heat recovery, an air-tight climate envelope and increased thermal insulation.

In the project, Sweco’s consultants are also focusing on other aspects of sustainability such as management of storm water, grey water and waste. Not least, the educational aspect of sustainability is important and they are working actively, both indoors and out, to demonstrate and create an understanding of the processes necessary to create a sustainable future.

Did you know that a passive building should be so well insulated that it can be heated by the amount of electricity needed to operate a hair dryer?

The building is heated by utilising energy sources such as the indoor air and the heat generated by the residents and their household appliances. This means that traditional radiator systems are superfluous and, for example, that the possibility of using floor to ceiling windows can be utilised. Solar panels on the roof are used to heat a large share of the hot tap water.
