Hydrogeology

Hydrogeology is an interdisciplinary subject between soil, water, nature and society. Hydrogeology, as stated above, is a branch of the earth sciences dealing with the flow of water through aquifers and other shallow porous media (typically less than 450 m or 1,500 ft below the land surface.) The general flow of fluids (water, hydrocarbons, geothermal fluids, etc.) in deeper formations is a concern for geologists, geophysicists and petroleum geologists.  The Nordics, with its high quality hard rock earth surface, has of course utilised this advantage by locating a variety of operations/activities underground, which subsequently have generated unique experiences for Sweco’s Hydro-Geotechnical experts. Underground applications such as the storage of hydrocarbons as crude and gas, the storage of nuclear waste, emergency centres, and even the storage of books or wines have been developed in the region.
