Geological/geotechnical engineering
Geo-technical engineering is a branch of civil engineering concerned with the engineering behaviour of earth materials. Geotechnical engineering includes investigating existing subsurface conditions and materials; determining their physical/mechanical and chemical properties that are relevant to the project considered; assessing risks posed by site conditions; designing earthworks and structure foundations; and monitoring site conditions, earthwork and foundation construction. Sweco, having its core home market in the Nordics with a variety of geological conditions, from hard rock conditions in the north to soft lime stone in the south, possesses competitive and impressive understanding and experience in the Geology and Geotechnical fields. In addition, serving as a permanent service supplier to the successful Nordic mining and steel industry, as well as serving Nordic equipment and machinery manufacturers such as Atlas Copco, Volvo Trucks, and Sandvik in their overseas business success, has continuously strengthened our position in these fields.
