Sweco to manage major collaborative biogas project

3/10/2010

Sweco has been chosen to manage the major EU-funded Baltic Biogas Bus project, in which no fewer than eight European countries are collaborating. The project is currently on tour and on 11 March Sweco will be in attendance during the international “Nordic Biogas Conference” in Oslo.

The Baltic Biogas Bus project will run for three years and is aimed at encouraging cities and regions around the Baltic to increase their use of biogas-driven buses.

“Through increased use of biogas in buses, we can reduce emissions and improve the air quality. At the same time, the project will contribute to strengthening the role of public transport,” explains Geert Schaap, responsible project manager at Sweco.

The project will facilitate future production and distribution of biogas through the development of strategies and policies related to this area. Sweco is managing the project on behalf of SL (Stockholm Public Transport) and its tasks are to organise a strong partnership between the different countries, administrate the permit application process to the EU and provide project management services.

At present, Sweco is active in a number of other innovative projects focusing on renewable fuels, both in and outside Europe.

On 11 March a seminar on the project will be held at the international “Nordic Biogas Conference” in Oslo, Norway, where you can meet Sweco and obtain more information about our operations.
