Sweco has been commissioned to protect the area around the Nysa Klodzka River in Poland from future flooding catastrophes. The result will be a modern flood protection system with a focus on environmental consideration.

around the Nysa Klodzka River in Poland.
In the past spring and summer, Sweco established itself in Poland through the acquisition of two new companies. The first of these was Hydroprojekt Kraków, a consultancy specialised in hydraulic engineering and water resource management. In June it was also announced that Transprojekt Kraków with expertise in road and bridge engineering would become part of Sweco.
The new Sweco companies have now been teamed in a major dam project on the Nysa Klodzka River in Poland. In recent years the river basin has been hard hit by recurring floods and there is an urgent need to prevent similar disasters in the future.
Gregor Rolski coordinates Sweco's
commission in Poland.
”Our task is to raise the level of safety around the dams in the region,” says Gregor Rolski, who is responsible for coordinating activities at Sweco.
The end result will be a modern flood protection system in which a fish ladder has been included to facilitate fish migration.
”As the effects of climate change emerge, measures like this be necessary in more and more places,” according to Gregor Rolski.
The client in the project is a government water authority.
”Competition for the major contracts in Poland is extremely tough,” explains Gregor Rolski, but he also points out that Sweco has good potential to win similar assignments in the future thanks to its strong portfolio of reference projects.
The Group’s breadth and local presence also make Sweco an attractive partner in projects of this type.
“Sweco is represented throughout much of Eastern Europe and has a full range of competencies to contribute toward raising standards in the environmental, energy and infrastructure areas.”
