Sweco in Lithuania has been awarded
a contract to design the first solar centre
in Eastern Europe.

The new centre - Visoriai Information Technology Park – is planned to be built during 2011. Sweco in Lithuania will be responsible for the technical design, architectural and structural parts of the detailed design and prepare the tender documentation for the construction phase.

“During the design process there are some very strict requirements to deal with. For example we have to ensure the maintenance of certain temperatures and humidity levels in the premises. We will also ensure air freshness and effective fire protection. Moreover, we are going to apply the best available technique when designing the building service systems,” says Valdas Babaliauskas, Vice President of the Industry and Infrastructure Division at Sweco Lithuania.

“We are really pleased with this possibility to contribute to development of sustainable energy projects in Lithuania,” he adds.

The new centre will contain a large complex of buildings that will house three companies. They all deal with activities including scientific solar energy technology research, production of solar cells and assembling of bigger models from solar cells. The investments in the centre amounts to approximately 43 million Euro.
By 2015 the centre is supposed to produce solar cells with a value of 120 million Euro. The major part of the production will be exported. The first production line should start its operation at the end of 2011, and the second will be commissioned in 2013.

“Solar energy industry is rapidly growing all over the world and the demand for such technologies and solutions is tremendously increasing. We hope that with the help of the Sweco’s engineers we will soon have the most advanced and unique solar energy research and production centre in the whole Eastern Europe,” comments the client Vidmantas Janulevičius, Managing Director of BOD Group.
