Ida Rennemark has left Sweden for Liberia’s capital city of Monrovia. For five months, she will manage a project for construction of a new children’s hospital. The job is ideally suited for Ida Rennemark, who normally works as a construction and project manager at Sweco.

Ida Rennemark says that the first few weeks in Monrovia were very intense. She got to work right away examining the building that will become the new children’s hospital and interviewing hospital staff. Before Christmas she completed the drawings and sent requests for tender to local contractors.

“The first few weeks were tough. It was an enormous transition even though I work with similar things at Sweco. But I have always been interested in humanitarian efforts and am happy to be able to contribute my skills here,” says Ida Rennemark.

It was nearly one year ago that Sweco and Doctors Without Borders initiated a long-term collaboration.

“We are very pleased with the collaboration and that Sweco sees the value of letting its employees work in the field together with the medical personnel we send out. We set great store by Sweco’s engineering expertise and experience in leading and developing complex projects,” says Katharina Ervanius from Doctors Without Borders.

Sweco is contributing financial support to Doctors Without Borders and its employees are also given the chance to use their engineering skills in the various humanitarian initiatives conducted by Doctors Without Borders.

“We see it as a valauble source of competence development, both for us as a company and for the individual employees. As an international consulting company with projects in more than 80 countries, we consider the experience gained by Sweco’s employees to be a significant asset for our future business,” says Eva Nygren, President of Sweco Sweden.
