Broad Sweco competence in heat recovery assignment
12/21/2010
Sweco Industry in Finland is working on the client Ekokem’s project on heat recovery from existing processes into existing district heating system in the towns of Riihimäki and Hyvinkää in Southern Finland.
Pekka Koivumäki, regional manager of Tampere/Tammerfors explains how employees from Sweco’s Tampere office are needed in all parts of the project :.
- The assignment started in April 2010 with the process engineering and main equipment procurement, and proceeded with planning of the plant engineering, structural and electrification and automation engineering. Sweco’s employees are also taking part in the construction supervision and implementation.
By early December, the structural work and equipment installations are mainly done.
- We are adding two heat recovering units into the existing flue gas system just before the chimneys and one DH-heat exchanger on the exhaust of the steam turbine. All new three units will be in operation in the beginning of 2011, explains project manager Kari Aho.
The demand of district heating power in the towns of Riihimäki and Hyvinkää is increasing with 2-4% per year. A part of this need is fulfilled by the heat recovery process now being built. With this investment the energy efficiency value will increase from 67% (2009) to 81%. As a result, the project will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions corresponding to emissions of 5 000 cars, because of less fossil fuels needed.
Sweco has provided engineering services for Ekokem’s versatile projects in three decades, and the cooperation continues.
