Sweco is participating in Cities of the Future – Sustainable Urban Planning and Water Management

4/7/2011

Conference in Stockholm 22nd -25th May 2011

Cities are part of the dream of a better life but they are changing. How do we tackle environmental problems, climate change, a declining or increasing population and competition between regions and users of limited water resources? And how can we create more attractive cities?

Urban Planners and water professionals have a shared responsibility and opportunity to make the cities of today, cities of the future: better, safer and more pleasant to live and work in. During the conference, the city’s problems and its opportunities will be presented by qualified and knowledgeable speakers from Europe, USA, Australia and Asia. The presentations will be complemented by interesting study visits. They will be discussed and digested in well-structured workshops with process leaders.  As a participant you will receive an unparalleled, tangible experience of working with long-term sustainable solutions along with colleagues from other cities and countries. The emphasis is on the challenges we have in European cities today.

– When it became clear that NKV had succeeded in bringing the IWA conference Cities of the Future to Sweden, it seemed only natural that Sweco should actively contribute to the success of the conference. Sweco has been one of the pioneers in the development of the concept the Sustainable City. In addition, Sweco has been a leading consultant both nationally and internationally in water and sanitation and water planning for more than one hundred years. The combination of urban planning and water and sanitation planning is a good fit for us as a company. Since Sweden is at the front line in these areas, this conference is of major significance in placing Sweden on the map within this innovative field – to build the sustainable city – with well-designed water and wastewater management as one of the cornerstones” advises Sweco’s Christer Andersson, Director of International Operations (Water and Environment).

The following experts from Sweco will be giving lectures during the conference: Ulf Ranhagen, Geert Schaap, José-Ignacio Ramírez, Jenny Pirard and Thomas Larm.

The organiser of the forum is IWA - International Water Association, IFHP - International Federation for Housing and Planning, FFS - Swedish Society for Town and Country Planning, SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute and CIT Urban Water Management AB.

Cities of the Future is aimed at politicians, urban planners, architects, water professionals, environmental experts, energy experts, transport specialists and many other interested parties.
