The employees at Sweco submitted a presentation of their president to the “Best Boss of the Year” competition. Now the jury has decided that Sweco Lithuania really does have the country’s best boss.

Arturas Abromavicius has been named
Best Boss of the Year 2009 in Lithuania.

Arturas Abromavicius, President of Sweco Lithuania, has been named “Best Boss of the Year 2009” in a competition held every year by Lithuania’s nationwide radio station M1 Plius. Arturas Abromavicius has been given the title of Golden Boss, an honour that came as a pleasant surprise to him.

“I am very pleased and proud to have won this award. The procedure is for the employees to take the initiative in submitting a presentation of their boss. In our case, the employees had prepared a very good application that emphasised Sweco’s contributions to sustainable development. The whole idea was permeated by an ambition to grow and develop with patience and a focus on long-term sustainability,” explains Arturas Abromavicius.

As a result of the competition, Arturas Abromavicius has been booked to talk about leadership issues on the radio. He explains that leadership in Lithuania has many different components, but that one defining characteristic is to actively participate and be deeply involved in the decisions made in the company. In Arturas’s own leadership style, the human aspect is a key factor.

“It’s a matter of equality and treating everyone the same, regardless of their position in the company. Other important qualities for me as a manager are trust in the employees and the ability to delegate responsibility. I truly enjoy giving people responsibility and I trust them to take their duties seriously.”

In the past year Sweco has developed “The Sweco Leadership Compass”. The idea is for the compass to define expectations for the company’s leaders and function as a source of guidance for both leaders and employees at Sweco. Sweco’s Head of HR, Jessica Petrini, feels that the Lithuanian subsidiary has succeeded well in its efforts to create a good leadership culture.

“This award confirms the fact that Sweco is a forerunner and has a leadership culture that promotes the development of both our business and our employees. It is through our leaders that we build commitment and motivation among the employees,” says Jessica Petrini.
