Strong interest in Sweco’s Capital Markets Day

The theme of the year’s Capital Markets Day was growth opportunities in sustainable development.
24 September marked the date of Sweco’s Capital Markets Day, an event that was attended by both stock analysts and journalists interested in learning more about current projects and growth opportunities at Sweco.
What makes Sweco attractive to the stock market?
“Overall, Sweco stands out for its work in the environmental and sustainability areas. In recent years the level of profitability for companies active in environmental engineering has risen significantly. In Sweco’s case it is also clear that the company has succeeded well in handling the market downturn and maintaining high profitability,” says Andreas Koski, a Stock Analyst at HQ Bank.
The visit started in Hammarby Sjöstad, where Sweco has been involved in numerous projects over the past few years. Among other things, Sweco has developed Sustainable City, a concept for ecologically sustainable development that provided the model for the city district.
“What we see here are examples of solutions that are in high demand among our clients around the world. For example, the Tangshan region of China is creating a whole new city for one million residents based on Sweco’s Sustainable City concept,” explained Bo Carlsson, President of Sweco Environment.
Climate change creating business opportunities
In the afternoon, Jonas Dahlberg, Head of Business Development at Sweco, presented business opportunities in “Sustainable Engineering and Design”.
“This is an area that offers enormous business opportunities, particularly when it comes to dealing with climate change. New legislation will require massive investments throughout Europe in the years ahead and Sweco has an excellent position in this regard, since we have the capacity to tackle climate issues from all angles,” said Jonas Dahlberg.
Sweco’s CEO Mats Wäppling ended by describing the future outlook for Sweco in both the near and long term.
“In the past year our industrial consultants have faced a tough situation. A the same time, we see continued growth potential in the water and environment, energy and infrastructure areas,” says Mats Wäppling.
Good conditions for major acquisitions
Sweco has grown by an average of 15% annually since the millennium shift. After having focused on strengthening its positions in Central and Eastern Europe for several years, new opportunities are now opening up to target markets in other parts of Europe.
“We have grown through many small acquisitions in recent years. Sweco has a sound financial position and the market climate today offers favourable conditions for us to continue expanding through major acquisitions. We are now also widening our scope and looking at countries like The Netherlands, Germany, the UK and Poland,” summed up Mats Wäppling.
