The Swedish pavillion

The World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, which will run between 1 May and 31 October 2010, is expected to be the biggest Expo ever. A total of 228 countries and international organisations have so far announced their participation. The arrangers estimate that 70 million people will visit Expo 2010 during its six month duration.

The Swedish pavilion has been created by Sweco’s architects, which were awarded the design contract in November 2008. The process began with an internal competition to generate creative ideas and proposals for the pavilion’s design. Since then, a team from the company has continued working under the supervision of architects Johannes Tüll and Christer Stenmark.

The structure has a total area of 3,000 square meters, half of which will be used for exhibition space and half of which will contain conference and meeting facilities for companies together with a shop, a café and offices. The pavilion consists of four volumes that are linked together by glass passages. On the roof, guests are invited out onto a terrace with views overlooking the exhibition area and downtown Shanghai.

The Swedish pavilion is part of an integrated whole in which the building and exhibit together convey a picture of Sweden as one of the most innovative countries in the world.
