Sweco has designed the Swedish and Norwegian pavilions for Shanghai World Expo
Sweco has designed the pavilion that will
represent Sweden during the World Expo
in Shanghai.
The World Expo 2010 will be held in Shanghai, China, between 1 May and 31 October 2010. The expo is expected to be the largest of all time, attracting up to 70 million visitors.
Sweden is building its own pavilion at Expo 2010. The architects at Sweco have been awarded the challenging and prestigious task of designing the pavilion. The Swedish pavilion is part of an integrated whole in which the structure and exhibit together convey a picture of Sweden as one of the most innovative countries in the world. The 3,000 m2 building will placed on a site of roughly equal size and will be located in the European section with the other Nordic countries as its closest neighbours.
In Norway, Sweco has designed the pavilion in collaboration with Helen & Hard Arkitektkontor and Melvær & Lien Idé-Entreprenør.
The concept is a 2,000 m2 pavilion with sustainability and long-term thinking as the central themes. The pavilion consists of a forest of 15 large "trees" made of Norwegian glue laminated timber. The forest contains spaces for different activities and experiences. The pavilion will demonstrate sustainability in the form of eco-cycle thinking, in terms of the choice of both materials and energy solutions.
